Like me, many people have been cooped up in their houses for the past couple of months. There is only so much “family time” one can have until it is just too much and you need some alone time. I totally get it. So, here’s my advice– escape to the world of Walter White and meth.
I know. You’re probably thinking “woah, woah, woah, let’s take it down a notch.” To that I say no, let’s ramp it up. For this Media That Matters, I am suggesting the hit show “Breaking Bad.”
To give you a brief description of it without giving too much away, the show is about Walter White, a high school science teacher who is diagnosed with cancer, and how he gets involved with cooking meth. It is probably not the most kid-friendly show because the whole meth thing, but if you are old enough then this show is going to blow you away.
As a TV nerd like myself, Breaking Bad is an outstanding television feat. It has everything you could ever want from a technical side of things. Plus, the character development throughout the seasons is like nothing I’ve ever watched before. Vince Gilligan, the show’s director, does a fantastic job transforming the characters as time goes on and different things happen that impact them. You’ll go from liking someone, to hating them, to feeling bad for them, to loving them again in the span of a couple episodes. It’s fantastic.
I watched Breaking Bad a couple of years ago, but a friend of mine just watched it during quarantine and it reminded me of just how great it is. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a good binge. Fair warning– the first season is a little slow, so you have to power through that, but I promise the other four are completely worth it.
Stuck in your house because of a global pandemic? Why not give Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and their meth-cooking adventures a try.
